Birthing Services

Janel Silva, Doula, ICCE

As of January 1, 2018, I am no longer available for doula services. Please check out www.capitalcitydoulas.com for doulas in the area.

If you are in need of lactation services, either private prenatal lactation classes or in home consultations, please contact me. My SacMilk website will be coming soon.

Prenatal Appointments

I  provide two prenatal meetings in the comfort of your own home. These meetings are usually 2 to 3 hours long and provide an opportunity for us to meet and gain familiarity with each other. We explore your birth preferences (birth plan), comfort measures, relaxation techniques, positive positioning, hospital protocols, referral needs, breastfeeding goals and post-partum choices.

Continuous Labor Support
When you are in labor I will come to your house, hospital or birth center when you need me! I will provide you with informational, emotional and physical support during your labor in whatever way is best for you and your family.

My role is to complement your family dynamic during the birth process, not replace it. I advocate for your birth choices, working in tandem with medical staff, your partner and/or your family members. After the birth I typically stay until you and your family are settled, typically 1-2 hours.

On Call 24/7
Birth is unpredictable and your “Estimated Due Date (EDD)” is just that, an estimate! I will be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, starting 1 week before your EDD and 1 week after your EDD.

Connectivity
In addition to being on call before your labor, you may email, text or phone me with any questions during your 1-month postpartum support period. I will also do a weekly phone check-in with you to see how things are going.

Postpartum Appointment
I provide one postpartum visit after the baby is born to discuss the labor and share your birth story with you. I will check to see if feedings are going well and answer any general questions you may have.

Doula Backup
I care about my clients and work hard to be there during their births. I try to schedule 2 weeks between my client’s EDDs in an effort to avoid overlapping labors. Unfortunately, sometimes events happen which preclude me from being at a labor. If this should happen, I prearrange back-up services with another trained and reliable doula.

Childbirth and/or Lactation Education
If you are first-time parents or this is your second time around and you just need a refresher, I can bring childbirth and or lactation instruction to you in the privacy of your own home. These classes can be tailored to your individual educational and physical needs, pregnancy stage and birthing location. There is an additional fee for this service.

Topics may include:
Pregnancy stages and development, basic nutrition and prenatal exercise, birth plan development, comfort measures, stages and signs of labor, pain management, physiology and techniques of lactation and breastfeeding and postpartum care.

Please contact me for fees and availability.
